FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Based on the Report of the Committee on General Investigating in the Matter of Representative Bryan L. Slaton dated May 6, 2023 (“Slaton Report”), the Van Zandt County Republican Club supports the decision by Representative Slaton to resign his position effective immediately.
The Slaton Report amply details conduct that is immoral, unethical and illegal, conduct directly contrary to his Christian profession, his observed character and his support of biblically based conservative Republican principles. According to the Slaton Report, Representative Slaton, though represented by counsel, offered no evidence in his defense, did not deny the allegations against him, expressed no remorse and, apparently, allowed his male staffers without cause to obstruct justice by refusing to cooperate with the Committee’s investigation. With deep sadness, we say that Representative Slaton has disgraced himself and his office, betrayed the voters who supported him as well as the people of this great State, hurt the cause of truth, inflicted harm upon his victims and their families and, no doubt, crushed his own family whom we know and love.
Our deep conviction of the rightness of the principles Representative Slaton supported remains un-phased by the findings in the Slaton Report. His treacherous conduct, however outrageous, cannot detract from the timeless principles of freedom for which he bravely stood. Yet, as we could no longer support him given the shocking revelation of the Slaton Report, we are pleased that, at least, he spared the House of Representatives, this County and the people of Texas further scandal and ignominy by his resignation. We pray for mercy, repentance and reconciliation for Representative Slaton and his family. We pray for grace, forgiveness and healing for his victims and their families. Finally, we pray for our State, that God will be pleased to raise up more godly leaders who will stand unwaveringly for justice, righteousness and truth.
